A woman was spared a seven year jail term at a Wuse Magistrate Court after she poured boiling water on a woman who is dating her husband.
Court filings showed that Ruth Segun, 30, of Utako Village committed the act on the June 11 between 7 and 8 pm when she trailed Deborah Mayat the place where she operates a mobile phone booth business.
Mayat told the court that Deborah poured a bucket of boiling water on her because she is dating her attacker’s husband Segun.
Ruth told the court that she has been married to Segun for five years and that the union has three daughters but that her husband was beginning to abandon and neglect the family because of the series of affairs he was having outside.
She said “I have told him to stop the womanising and focus on his family but he refused. When I cook food he will not eat it.” Ruth said she also repeatedly warned Deborah to leave her husband for her but will not listen.
“So that day, I did not know what came over me. I boiled the bucket of water and went to where she was and pour the water one her.” Ruth saidomanoman

Cause of contention...Segun
Segun on his part said he did not formally marry Ruth and that he started a relationship with Deborah when Ruth was making the home unbearable for him. “She does not listen to me. She quarrels all the time and I provide for the family adequately, you can ask her sisters who stay with her.”
Deborah however told the court that she does not wish to pursue the case brought against Ruth following which the Presiding Magistrate, Fatima Malo dismissed the case.
