TRIBUTE TO THE DEAD

The mystery of life has been fulfilled in your life. The health you enjoyed as you tarried here was indeed a grace which teaches us the living to live in that consciousness.

Your achievements are there for the world to watch; whether it be good or bad, you have made your own input in the planet earth and no man can question you except God.

The opportunity you had to serve in the public space offered you great opportunity to be heard even at the early stage of your life. We the living count that opportunity as golden. The joy and frills thereto inspired our voices to shower "RIP" and 2hours silence to you.

The account of your stewardship is such that no man can score you; only you and your creator can settle that.

Today, as you are off the earth, many will miss you; these are the people whom your sojourn on earth impacted in one way or the other.

As a political pundit, you did partake in the policy drive of the government you served. Your work in that office will continue to uphold your identity.

One fact is certain; nobody sojourns here forever. We all are pilgrims, your death has ushered this forum into a sudden crusade, where under the state of imagination, we are attentive to recall, your tall stature, handsome face, dogged political fights, undeterred will and above all, your intimidating personality which scares the foes to bow... Today, all bowed with you. That's the fact we must learn from your crusade.

No one except those in the consciousness of the ephemeral nature of this earth would believe your death. The indisputable fact here is that, you are gone and gone for ever.

MY MESSAGE TO THE LIVING:

We are today astound by the sudden death of our brother, Engr Onyenyiri. His death is no doubt painful but, to us the living, can we say we are consciously preparing to be in the shoes our brother is today?

If we are preparing for it, we will not hold anything too "tight" rather, our desire and watchword should be to invest on lives. As you do, you duplicate yourself on others, and by so doing, you live on even as you stop to exist physically.

Dear brethren, I'm humbled that, the likes of Engr Onyenyiri could be humbled by death. This is irrespective of his achievements and connections. Death is indeed a powerful agent that must knock at our doors any day, any time our maker wishes.

Look into your lives and ask yourself, am I on the right track? Am I being swayed by the mundane things of this world?

Our brother came, saw, and has gone! May his soul rest in peace, Amen

An Accountant, Grace Wisdom, 35, who allegedly stole her employer’s N747,420, was, on Thursday, brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Wisdom, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.

She pleaded innocence of the offence, but the Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, insisted that the accused committed the offence between May 23, 2016 and March 21, 2017 at No. 41, Onitana St., Surulere.

Okoliko said the accused stole Grandex Pharmaceutical Company Ltd’s N747,420 being proceeds of sales.

The case was adjourned until April 5 for mention. (NAN)

The apex bank announced an adjustment to its foreign exchange policy; making foreign exchange available for tuition, medical expenses and basic travel allowance.

It earlier directed banks to sell forex at 375 but amended the policy on Monday, and asked banks to sell at 360.

EFCC Arraigns Directors Of Origin Oil And Gas Over N735m Subsidy Scam (pics) by tyokunbo

 Source: http://towncrieronline.net/2017/03/30/efcc-arraigns-directors-of-origin-oil-and-gas-over-n735m-subsidy-scam/

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, March 30, 2017 arraigned the duo of Adegbite Adetoye and Ponnle Abiodun along with Origin Oil and Gas Limited before Justice Silvanus Orji of the FCT High Court Apo, Abuja on an 11-count charge of fraud and abuse of Petroleum Support Fund to the tune of N735million, Towncrieronline.Net has learned.

Adetoye and his co-accused allegedly conspired and fraudulently obtained the sum of N735, 132, 076.18 (seven hundred and thirty five million, one hundred and fifty two thousand, seventy six naira, eighteen kobo) from the federal government as payment for the importation of 15,000mt of premium motor spirit (PMS) which they claim to have purchased from Vitol SA and imported into Nigeria through MT Silverie.

The offence contravenes Section 8 (a) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

S. I Ameh, SAN, counsel to the defendants, informed the court that he had a pending bail application dated March 27, 2017 and served on the prosecution same date.

He urged the court to admit the defendants to bail adding that they would be available for trial.
Counsel to EFCC, Steve Odiase, did not oppose the application on the ground that the defendants had earlier been granted administrative bail by the Commission.

Justice Orji granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100million each with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be civil servants not below grade level 14 or residents in Abuja with traceable address to be verified by the court or EFCC. The defendants must not travel out without the permission of the court.

The case has been adjourned to May 22nd and 25th, 2017 for hearing.
Meanwhile, Justice Orji has ordered the defendants to be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of their bail terms.

Nigeria Imports 70m Generators

No fewer than 70 million generators have been imported into the country, the Chief Executive Officer, Consistent Energy Limited, Mr Segun Adaju, has said.

Adaju told The Nation that shortatge of gas, which is the feedstock for power plants across the country, is the reason for the high incidence of generation units importation in the country..

Adaju said a research by his organisation showed that Nigeria is the net importer of generators with about 70 million generators brought in the past few years.

He said the worsening electricity situation was making Nigerians to seek solace in alternative energy supply, adding that the issue has depleted savings of many individuals and organisations.

Adaju said: ‘’Between 60 and 70 million generators of different brands and sizes have been imported into the country, in the past few years. The generators are of lower and higher voltages, depending on the needs of the owners. Besides, the generators range from the smallest to the biggest, such as Perkins and Caterpillar brand. The generators are worth billions of naira, which means that Nigerians are repatriating funds to access power.’’

He said there are health hazards caused by fumes from the generators, stressing that the issue has made people to inhale carbon monoxide, which is life-threatening.

‘’Many people have died through the inhalation of carbon monoxide arising from the use of generators. Aside this, generators cause air pollution and other environmental hazards,” he added.

Adaju, whose firm specialises in generation and provision of solar energy for individuals and communities nationwide, said Nigerians could replace their generators with solar energy and other renewables, and in return, get better and safer services.

He urged the federal and state governments to invest in solar energy and other methods of off-grid electricity for growth.

Salary Arrears: Abia Headmistress Demoted For "Embarrassing Ikpeazu’s Wife" by LocalChamp

Published March 29, 2017 Ogbonnaya Ikokwu, Umuahia

The headmistress of a primary school at Amaetiti Asaga Ohafia, in Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia State, Mrs. Maryleen Ezichi, has been reportedly demoted to a classroom teacher for allegedly embarrassing the wife of Abia State governor, Nkechi Ikpeazu.

It was gathered that Ezichi has been transferred to the Ukwa-East Local Government Area — about 140 kilometers from her former school — to serve as a deterrent for her ‘impunity and lack of respect for constituted authority’.

The headmistress, it was learnt had, during an interactive session with Ikpeazu’s wife after the inauguration of her free meal programme for primary school pupils in her school, complained that ‘teachers were being owed several months of salary arrears and allowances’.

Ezichi was quoted to have told the governor’s wife that teachers had been finding it difficult to meet their financial obligations like the payment of house rents, school fees for their wards, medical bills, transport fares and had pleaded with her to intercede on their behalf.

It was gathered that two days after, the embattled Ezichi was whisked away to Umuahia from the school, where she was handed a letter of deployment and instructed to proceed to the new station immediately.

While defending the headmistress, one of her colleagues, who spoke on condition of anonymity, queried the appropriateness of the government’s action, maintaining that if the government felt embarrassed by her appeal it should do the needful.

He said, “By the way, of what importance is the meal programme to the pupils in particular and the schools in general? What about other schools in the community? All we are saying is that the government should pay us our entitlements period.”

In January, the state’s wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers had embarked on an indefinite strike over their six-month salary arrears, non-payment of leave allowances and non-implementation of their promotions.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the state’s NUT, Chizobam Akparanta, stated that he was not aware of the incident, adding that if the teacher complained about it to the union, the NUT would look into it.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Education, Chris Ogbuehi, denied any knowledge of the matter even as he insisted that he was not in the position to speak on such a sensitive matter without the permission of his boss.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Enyinnaya Appolos, said the information made available to him by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ikechi Mgbeoji, had it that there was no such incident in the state.

He added that the state would investigate the allegation to ascertain what truly happened.

Abubakar Yusuf's Hospital Seized In Kano (Photo)

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has sealed a hospital belonging to a former Commissioner for Health in the state over alleged theft of 533,000 dollars (about N163 million).

The Chairman of the commission, Mr Muhuyi Rimingado, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by telephone on Thursday in Abuja.
Rimingado said that the health facility, New Age Diabetic Clinic, located at Dorayi Babba in Kano, belonged to Dr Abubakar Yusuf, the former commissioner for health allegedly involved in the scholarship scam.

He said the amount was part of 1.5 million dollars (about N458 million) meant for the payment of scholarship grants to 139 students sponsored by the previous government to study at Al-Mansuora International University, Egypt.

He explained that the commission’s attention was drawn to the development following complaints of non-payment of the allowances by the students.
The chairman said that the allowances covered the 2012 to 2014 tuition and accommodation fees of the students.

Rimingado said that the subsequent seizure of 200,000 dollars (about N61 million) by authorities at the Cairo International Airport from a Nigerian bound for Kano was also directly linked to the ex-commissioner.

The chairman said that the suspect had confessed his connection to the seized $200,000.

“Yusuf said the money was meant to finance a company they created but could not provide the source of the fund and the reason for the attempt to smuggle it into the country,’’ the chairman said.
“In the course of investigation, one of the directors at the Ministry of Health confirmed that he served the former commissioner with the money sourced from the consultant to the students’ scholarship scheme,” Rimingado added.

He said the consultant collected 1.5 million dollars from the Kano Government for the scholarship scheme, but how the fund was disbursed remained suspicious.

Lagos traders arrested for selling beans preserved with Sniper. photo

Three siblings trading in beans on Adenekan Street, Alagbado, Lagos State, have been arrested by the police for allegedly selling “poisonous beans” to members of the public.
It was learnt that the traders – Faith Ogbona, Chidioke Ogbona and Sunday Ogbona – were arrested by policemen from the Alagbado division after being alerted by a woman, who caught Chidioke applying Sniper, an insecticide, on the beans.

While Chidioke and Sunday were picked up on Friday, their elder brother, who owned the shop, was nabbed on Sunday when he went to the station to secure their bail.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the shop had also been sealed off.
The police said 41-year-old Faith had wanted to influence his brothers’ release by allegedly offering the divisional police officer a N500,000 bribe, which the latter rejected.
The suspects, who hail from Ebonyi State, were paraded on Wednesday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja with some bags of the “poisonous beans” and some bottles of Snipers recovered from the shop.
Eighteen-year-old Chidioke told our correspondent that he wanted to preserve the beans with the insecticide to prevent it from being infested with insects.
He said it was his first time of putting the substance in the foodstuffs, claiming that he deduced his “preservation method” from the use of Sniper to kill rodents.
Chidioke said, “I just saw it (Sniper) as something that kills insects and decided to use it to preserve the beans and kill the insects therein. I was applying the chemical for the first time when a woman approached me and warned that it was dangerous.
“A few minutes after, some policemen came to arrest me. My brother (Faith) was not around when I put the Sniper in the beans.”
Although the shop owner confessed that his suppliers in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he bought the goods, used some chemicals including Sniper and DD Force, to preserve beans, he said his brother carried out the act without his consent.
Faith, who said he started the business four years ago, also denied offering the bribe to the DPO.
He said, “I wasn’t around when my brother was caught putting Sniper in the beans. I was called on the telephone and I quickly returned to Lagos from Ibadan (Oyo State), where I had gone for a function. Sunday came to my shop when he learnt some policemen were there and he was also arrested.
“Chidioke just came back from our village. He had never seen me put Sniper in beans. In Maiduguri, if my suppliers wanted to preserve beans, they put DD Force or Sniper in water and spray it on the beans. It will be stored for about three or six months, depending on the quantity of chemicals applied.
“I have never mixed beans with chemicals, but I have been buying the one with chemicals from Maiduguri. If it is stored for a long time, it is not dangerous for human consumption.”
However, Sunday said he just alighted from a motorcycle when the police arrested him.
“I don’t preserve my beans with Sniper. I normally buy the quantity I can sell before insects infest it,” he added.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
“The excuse the owner of the shop gave was that he was mixing pesticide with beans and that he had been selling it like that. He approached the DPO, thinking he could easily settle the case and get the two other suspects released. He offered her N500,000, but she rejected it,” the CP added.

2018 Mercedes-maybach G650 Landaulet Is The Most Expensive SUV Ever Made

The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has officially debuted, following in the footsteps of the G63 AMG 6x6 and G500 4x42 and it costs a whopping $500,000 that is about N238 Million making it the most expensive SUV in the world.

This beastly off-roader is only the fifth model to be created by Mercedes’ new overhauled Maybach division and its very first SUV. Just 99 examples will be produced with each perfectly combining extreme off-road ability with uncompromised luxury.

Beneath the bodywork, the G650 Landaulet features AMG’s biturbo 6.0-liter V12 engine delivering 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. To give the model exceptional abilities off the beaten path, it includes similar portal axles to its siblings. Additionally, it is fitted with 100 per cent differential locks as well as a low off-road ratio transfer case. There’s also a remarkable 450 mm of ground clearance and a set of huge 325/55 R22 wheels.

As the name of the vehicle suggests, it features a retractable fabric section for the second half of the roof. This provides rear seat passenger with an open cockpit experience bolstered by the same rear seats as the S-Class. Passengers at the rear can therefore enjoy a host of massaging features including a hot-stone massage. There are also thermal cup holders and two tables that fold out of the center console.

Analysis Of UEFA Champions League 2017 Quarterfinals >>pic<< by Opinionated

We are getting to the business-end of the Champions League and many of the usual suspects in recent years are still around with a few interesting teams remaining in the competition. Here are my thoughts on the quarterfinals:

Atletico Madrid vs. Leicester City

Going by Diego Simeone’s impressive record in this competition which has seen Atletico reach 2 finals in the last 3 years, it is difficult not to pick them to advance against gutsy Leicester City. It is not like Leicester do not have a chance, afterall they just knocked-out Sevilla which is a very good Spanish team. However, there is something about Atletico Madrid in the Champions League that makes them very hard to beat over 2 legs.

Dortmund vs. Monaco

I am sure football fans around the world are rubbing their palms with glee over this one. 2 attacking sides going head-to-head with Pierre Emerick Aubemeyang coming up against Radamel Falcao and company. This is a tie both sides can win and they will fancy their chances but I am giving Monaco the edge in this tie because they have shown a lot more consistency in the French Ligue 1 this season than Dortmund have in the Bundesliga. Consistency may just be what separates the 2 sides, I will not be surprised if this tie ends 11-11 on aggregate.

Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid

There isn’t likely going to be much fear here as 2 of European football’s heavyweights clash. Carlo Ancelotti will be returning to his previous team which is still largely unchanged from when he was around with a Bayern team that seems intent on annihilating any opposition home or away (just ask Arsenal). However, it is rare to have Real Madrid enter a tie as underdogs and I do not see them as such. This tie could be one of fine margins with some star missing a great chance or scoring a great goal being the difference. If I have to go for a winner though, it will be Bayern despite the presence of Bale, Benzema and of course World Footballer of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo in the Real Madrid team.

Juventus vs. Barcelona

Barcelona really should not be here but they are and as such, I have to say they are favourites, how will Dani Alves cope with playing against his Barca friends? Juventus are a very good team and can match any team in Europe on their day. However, Barcelona are not likely to be complacent after their close shave with defeat against PSG. Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain might think they have a chance but with Luis Suarez, Neymar and Messi showing that they have the grit to go with their incredible talent, I find it difficult to see how Juventus can defeat them over 2 legs.

Former Enugu governor, Sullivan Chime defects to APC..Emmanuel Uzodimma

The immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Sullivan Chime has reportedly dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Although the former governor has not made a public statement on the matter, DAILY POST learnt Thursday night that his destination is the All Progressives Congress, APC

His move is seen to be a preparatory ground for an imminent political war between him and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Both politicians had before the 2015 general elections engaged in one of the heaviest political battles in the State as Chime planned to unseat Ekweremadu in the Senate.

The ex-governor later withdrew as Ekweremadu gained the upper hand.

However, latest developments indicate that the former governor has not given up on the Enugu West Senatorial seat.

Late Thursday night, spokesman of the APC in the South-East, Mr. Hyacinth Ngwu in his Facebook page gave an indication of Chime’s next political movement.

He wrote on his timeline: “Breaking News: Today, His Excellency Barr. Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, immediate past governor of Enugu State, joins APC.”

His post, however, did not go down well with some Nigerians who felt Chime’s move was to evade prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over his alleged involvement in the 2015 election money shared by former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison Madueke.

But Ngwu swiftly fired back at Chime’s critics with another post.
It read: ‎”I wonder how some of the opposite politicians talk. If their member is questioned by EFCC or ICPC or invited by the Police, they will shout to the heavens, ‘victimisation, oppression of political opponents’.

“But when the same person defects to (APC), a better party with vision for Nigeria, they roar that the same defected to avoid interrogation by EFCC, ICPC or the Police. Haba, which way my people?”

When contacted by DAILY POST for more clarifications, Ngwu said discussions were still on going. He was not exact on when Chime would formally defect to the party.

As of the time of filling this report, a text message sent to Chime’s then Chief Press Secretary, Barr. Chukwudi Achife has not been responded to.

In this day my darling husband saw his wife and mother of his child bleeding on the floor but was still hugging and puffing. Swearing on his mothers life that that was going to be my last day on earth. Swearing that he would "enter Instablog" as the next man who killed his wife. I can't help but imagine 2 conductors on the street fighting, 2 strangers.
When one starts to bleed the other would think "ha make I calm down oh" talkleas of beating your defenseless wife who did Nothing to you (or please ask him, what I did, I would love to be able to make sense of this, love to know my offense). He showed no mercy, still said to me that I was going to drown in my blood. He locked all doors, even balconies invade I wanted to jump out!

The man I loved striped to his underwear in front of my friend and the abuse went on for hours, he had 2 of his own friends in the house and even they weren't enough to stop him, he was exchanging blows with them, just to get to me.

It was as though he had 5 men inside him, determined to kill me. I excaped only by the grace of God. My friend and I were running on the street with blood on me like this and people wondering what happened to us. And this was just one day. I can write a book on the living hell I lived. And it's you, who has the guts to bring this to instagram? You are not even worthy of being a role model to your son yet You think you a motivational speaker now?

Edelmira Barreira Appointed As Minister For Sex In Spain (photo)

The Spanish Government has appointed a Minister of Sex in order to boost the nation’s declining population.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy confirmed Edelmira Barreira as the country’s top sex official.

With this move, the government hopes to boost Spain’s falling birth rate, which is one of the lowest in the developed world.

The Spanish government revealed that the move is aimed at getting Spaniards produce more babies.

Experts have however attributed the decline in birth rate among Spaniards to long working hours and the culture of eating late at night.

Spain in recent years has recorded declining birth rates which according to reports places it among developing countries with the lowest index.v
