EPL: Pogba will leave Manchester United this month – Allan Shearer

Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer has admitted that Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba will leave the club this month.

Shearer said he will “not be surprised” if Pogba, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, left Old Trafford this summer.

While the English transfer window closed last Thursday, players from the Premier League can still be sold until the end of August.

The legendary Premier League striker told The Sun UK, “I’ve read this week about Pogba wanting to leave before the European transfer deadline at the end of the month and in truth that wouldn’t surprise me.

“We saw the best of Pogba in the World Cup. Didier Deschamps managed to get top performances out of him in the games he played in the summer and he played very, very well.

“He has to replicate that for United but it’s also Mourinho’s job to get the best out of him. ‘Pogba did his bit on Friday in the 2-1 opening win over Leicester.

“He played well, scored the penalty – showing real confidence – but now he has to do that every single week.”

Shortly after Manchester United’s victory over Leicester at Old Trafford, Pogba posted a cryptic message on Instagram. He said: “I’ll always give my best to the fans and my teammates no matter what’s going on.”

Bus carrying 37 NYSC members crashes in Ogun:National Nig

 Vehicle conveying 37 members of the National Youths Service Corps ( NYSC ) has crashed on Monday at the Danco filling station corridor of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway, leaving 19 of them with grave injuries.

The Corps members were going to Sango Otta, Ogun State, shortly after passing out from their three weeks drills and exercise at the Ogun State NYSC Orientation Camp, Sagamu, when the accident around 3:16pm.

The Youth Corps members were travelling in unmarked Coaster bus after their orientation camp which ended on Monday.

In a release by the Route Commander, Florence Okpe, Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), she quoted the Sector Commander, Mr. Clement Oladele, as describing the accident as “serious,” and blamed “speed violation (SPV) and loss of control (LOC)” for the cause.

She added the victims comprising nine males and 10 females were evacuated to FRSC Accident Emergency Clinic at Sagamu while four of the Corps members having more serious injuries were referred for further medical treatment at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.

The Command advised Corps members to always caution their drivers especially during this raining season and where such drivers refused to heed caution, they should call FRSC toll free number 122 for necessary disciplinary action against such erring drivers.

NEWS, Presidency reveals identity of vehicles that ‘laid siege’ on Saraki’s home

                                                                        

The Presidency has revealed the identities of the security operatives that mounted siege at the residence of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki some weeks ago.
Speaking on Channels Television, the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Presidency, Babafemi Ojudu, said the vehicles that was seen around Saraki’s house were those of his (Saraki’s) security operatives.

He also revealed that Senators of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were actually in their caucus meeting elsewhere when the PDP lawmakers were claiming that they were inside the National Assembly planning Saraki’s impeachment last Tuesday.
He described members of the PDP as being dramatic, adding that they were seeking sympathy from the populace.

He also recalled how a lawmaker had once claimed that he was kidnapped and spent 11 hours on top of a tree.

Ojudu said, “As of that time they were said to be holed up inside the National Assembly, APC senators were actually in a meeting. They were in their normal caucus meeting while some had gone to their constituencies as soon as the Senate President adjourned parliament. I don’t know where people got that story from.
“It is either they misled the DSS that something was going to go amiss or there is complicity on the part of some people within the organization. PDP is given to drama. They are given to misleading the public. Look at the other time they said the police had stormed Senate President Saraki’s house and that they were going to arrest him, the next thing we saw was Saraki in the chambers reading out the names of people who had defected from the APC to the PDP.

“We investigated and discovered that the vehicles that were used supposedly to block Saraki’s house were vehicles that belonged to operatives stationed with him.

“Something is wrong somewhere. I think they are trying to work on the people’s imagination, trying to get some kind of sympathy from the populace. You know of a strong member of the PDP caucus who said he was kidnapped and he had to be on top of the tree for 11 hours. All those are just drama.”

SPORT EPL: Moses reacts to Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Huddersfield

 Chelsea winger, Victor Moses has reacted to the Club’s 3-0 win against Huddersfield in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
The Nigerian was pleased with the Blues’ bright start to the 2018/19 campaign.

Moses featured for the last ten minutes of Chelsea’s 3-0 success at the John Smith Stadium.

“Great way to start the new season. Massive win! #CFC,” Moses tweeted on Saturday after the game.

Moses replaced Pedro Rodriguez for his 219th appearance in the EPL.

It was goals from N’Golo Kante, a penalty from Jorginho and a sublime finish from Pedro Rodriguez that wrapped up the win for Chelsea.

Chelsea will face their North London rivals, Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge next weekend.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to leave office as Nigeria’s president in 2023 if elected next year.



He said this in reaction to fears that a new president from the North would do two-terms against the current arrangement of eight years turns between the North and the South.

According to analysts, one of the reasons some people in Southern Nigerian prefer President Muhammadu Buhari to win another term, was that by May 29, 2023, he would have completed his legitimate two terms.
Asked by Thisday if he was ready to sign an agreement to commit to serve for only four years, the Wazirin Adamawa replied “Of course, I would!”

“I have said this before on my own initiative. I believe in it. If I am elected as the President in 2019, I give an undertaking that I would only do one term.

“Having said that, let me remind Nigerians that Buhari also gave such an undertaking in 2011, but he is not living up to it today. My own case will be different. I am prepared to sign an undertaking to do only one term.

“I am not Muhammadu Buhari. I do not make promises I cannot keep. I am assuring Nigerians that I will keep this promise. I am making it out here in the open. I am willing to sign a written document.

“If you or any other Nigerian can come up with an iron-clad legal document that binds me, I am willing to publicly commit to it.”

The Rivers State government has opened an education endowment fund for the children of late Joseph Blankson. Wike announced this while receiving the family of the late hero at Government House yesterday afternoon.

Governor Wike who condoled with the bereaved family also gave immediate employment to the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Mercy Blankson, a graduate of microbiology and advised her to put the money in a scheme that will best benefit the children and guarantee their future.

The governor further directed the Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon. Tony Philmoore, PhD, to collect Mercy Blankson's credentials  to perfect the employment offered to her by the government.

Governor Wike also donated to the burial of late Joseph Blankson.

 Deloitte sport business group has released figures regarding the amount spent on transfer of players in the Premier League this summer.
The company said that summer transfer in the English topflight sparked a drop in spending for the first time since 2010.

The figures released showed that top-flight clubs spent an estimated £1.23 billion before Thursday’s pre-season deadline – down £200 million from last summer’s window.

According to Deloitte’s spokesperson, Tim Bridge, just 14 per cent of that figure, which is £175m, was spent on transfers between two Premier League clubs – an unforeseen consequence of the league’s window, closing before the rest of Europe.

Bridge told Press Association Sport, “I think the early closing of the window appears to have made clubs more reticent to sell players to other clubs in the Premier League.”

A radio station in Jos has been fined 100,000 Naira for playing Falz' "This is Nigeria" song. From Zenithnaija.com

 The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, wrote a letter to the radio station informing them that Falz' song titled This is Nigeria is "laced with vulgar lyrics" and for playing the song, they will be sanctioned.

The lyrics they pointed out that they had a problem with is the part that goes, "This is Nigeria, look how we living now, everybody be criminal."

Also, the commission fined the station for playing Olamide's song titled "See Mary, See Jesus." The letter says Mary and Jesus are regarded as sacred by the Christian faith and as such contravenes section 4.3.1e.
The station was also cautioned for playing Wande Coal's Iskaba with the lyrics, "Girl you dey make me kolo, shaking the ass like kolo" which NBC says is vulgar.
NBC has asked the station to pay the fine of 100,000 Naira within two weeks, else they will be made to face stiffer sanctions.

Social media users have reacted in shock to the letter and wonder how Falz' This is Nigeria can be considered vulgar.

Davido: I’m not keen on going international, I only do it for the culture

 Davido, Nigerian Afrobeats artiste, says he’s not hellbent on breaking into the international music market.

The award-winning singer is among those promoting the Afrobeats genre on the global scene.

But Davido said he is only making international moves because he feels a sense of responsibility to promote “the culture”.

“To be honest, me, I’m not into this international stuff but I’m really doing it because I’m one of those people pioneering this movement,” the ‘Fia’ singer said in an interview with Pause.

“I have to put a cape on my back and do it for the culture but I always prefer being at home.”

When asked about African artistes in the diaspora who are trying to connect with the Nigerian audience, Davido said they should relocate to the country.

“If they’re trying to reach somewhere it’s the best place to be,” he said.

“But it just depends, to be honest. Mr Eazi was in London, then he came back.”

Comparing the African market to the European market, Davido said the vibe back home is bigger because “Africa can do 18,000 people, it’s crazy, but here (Europe) it’s like 8K, 10K.”

Davido is currently gearing up to release his new album in September, after which he intends to headline a concert at the O2 Arena in London.
